| Another day, another teacher dress |
Last week I was able to attend my first Back to School Night NOT as a student! I was able to see what a teacher does at Back to School Night, and get to see all the parents of the students that I'm getting to know. It was fun to see some of the parents, and a lot of them had the same facial expressions and reactions as their child. Seeing Back to School Night from a teacher's point of view made me really appreciate how much preparation the teacher had to do to give parents a general understanding of what the goal was of the school year. I can also see how important good relationships with the parents is, and how much parents and teachers need to work together. I have so many ideas for my own Back to School Nights and what I want to share with the parents of my students!
| Leading a reading group! |
This week I got to lead a small group in a reading and discussion. This was the first time I had the chance to actually somewhat interact with the students, rather than just observe. It was so fun to lead the discussion, and hear what the students had to say about what we were reading. I was really excited to put to practice all the things I had learned in my Masters Program so far! I focused on Growth Mindset, and praising the process of the thinking, rather than if they had gotten the right answer. Each reading group I worked with was so different, and all the different personalities really shined through during smaller discussions. I am so grateful my Mentor Teacher is allowing me to get experience leading discussions so early on in my observation time.
